The history of GANT begins with a Ukrainian boy who sails to America, fallen in love, was successful and changed American fashion style forever. Berl Gantmacher, a miller's son from Miropol in Ukraine, was then a teenager and had already done it from the Russian Empire to Rotterdam. From there, he set his way to the west on the S.S. At the beginning when the company also supplied other retailers with shirts, a discreet Gant logo was added: a small diamond with a "G" inside. In the mid 1950s, the Diamant-G was part of American men's fashion history, a distinctive sign of quality, which helped to become the characteristic shirts.

Gant's detailed craftsmanship and effortless American style appeals to a generation of men who had worn military clothing for years and now returned home to take their place in the booming middle layer.

By the end of the 1960s, GANT was a pure shirt manufacturer, but then the time has come to use its expertise to expand its range. In 1971, the first collection of American sportswear was produced with ties, trousers and rugby shirts.
